Dentures and frame dentures

When multiple teeth are missing, or even all teeth, different types of prostheses can be made.
Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Partial denture

When a few teeth are missing, we can create a partial denture. This is a denture made of acrylic, often with metal clasps to gain some support from the surrounding teeth. This type of denture rests on the gums, so when you chew, the forces are absorbed by the gum tissue, which is not ideal since gums are not designed to withstand chewing forces. We often make this type of denture as a temporary solution until bridges and/or implants can be placed.

frame denture

A frame denture is a combination of a metal frame that rests on the teeth and a plastic part that rests on the gums. In a frame denture, the forces are mainly supported by the teeth. This type of denture fits firmly in the mouth and allows for good chewing.
